Things to do for free in Barcelona

Things to do for free in Barcelona

  • Spend some hours in  Parc de La Ciutadella in the middle of Barcelona. Throw yourself in the grass and watch creative folks doing capoeira (afro-brazilian dance/martial arts) juggling, tight rope walking, picnicking. There are also fun play areas where the kids can use trucks and shovels and other toys provided by the park.
  • Go to Montjuic mountain where you find among others Poble Espanyol (the old spanish village - not free entrance but it is possible to book tickets here), the beautiful old fort, the botanical gardens, the Olympic Stadium that hosted the Olympics in 1992. You can go there on public transit pretty easily or with the Barcelona Sightseeing Bus and you can as well try out the funicular (cable car) when you are there. Montjuic is a very large area with great city views. Kid-friendly parks with slides/play structures and lots of places to picnic.
  • Visit the beautiful Park Güell for free. You will NOT be able to access all the areas of the park because since 2013 it is required to book a ticket for Parc Güell to get total access. That said you will be able to enjoy this beautiful Barcelona park and have a great experience even though. If you do want to book tickets to enter the Parc Güell and enjoy all the work of famous architect Antoni Gaudi the tickets costs from 7€ to get access to the Monumental Zone Park Güell - (guided tours 14€) Click the link to book tickets
  • A walk by the waterfront is very nice - you can jump off at the Barcelonetta metro station (yellow line) and walk to the beach and then just follow the promenade. Eat in a good restaurant or maybe a drink in one of Barcelonas beach bars (chiringuitos) or just a quite walk enjoying the beach life. There are all in all 4 km of sandy beaches
  • Visit "El Bunker" for amazing city views. The bunker is located on the Carmel Hill and is an old bunker from the Spanish civil war from here you will have great 360 degree city views. I would recommend you to go up there and watch the sunset, grab a little picnic basket as there are nothing to buy up there - its only the old bunker so absolutely nothing fancy and not a place for high heels. If you go up there a couple of hours before sunset you will see all the lights changing while enjoying beautiful Barcelona beneath your feet with the sea in the horizon.
  • More to come....
