Casa Mila was originally commissioned by the wealthy, Pere Milà which hired Gaudí to build their family home - therefore the name, Casa Mila but due to the building's rough outward appearance it got quickly the nickname La Pedrera which means quarry. Casa Mila was built as two blocks linked by the two interior courtyards and even today there are parts of the building used as a private residential. Book you ticket to La Pedrera - The Origins now.
